Empowering Young Minds

Education with an Eternal Impact

Are you looking to gain valuable teaching experience while changing the lives of others on a different continent? Village Schools offers an unforgettable opportunity to invest a year in teaching and empowering young minds in rural East Africa!
  1. Share your faith, and shape young minds: Live out your Christian values while providing quality education.
  2. A summer, a semester, or a year: Work with a team of college students from universities in Africa.
  3. Connect with people: Build lasting relationships with students and with other teachers.
  4. Embrace living life in a village: Join the team. Live with them. Serve alongside them.

What To Expect

  1. Qualities: Humility and a willingness to sacrifice are key to the kind of service we seek from the missionaries we send. We are looking for people who will not only work hard and teach well but who are also willing to live in community and cultivate genuine relationships with the people living around them.
  2. Training: You will complete two weeks of training in a village before we send you to the school to teach. You will learn how to teach our students from teachers who have taught them for years, and you will learn how to live in a village from our students. This is a two-week training program where missionaries will be placed in in-home stays with students. While the student is in class, missionaries will receive a crash course in teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) or making Science come alive using locally available materials.
  3. Living Conditions: Our schools are all located in remote areas. Most of them do not have electricity or running water, and the internet connection is slow or non-existent. Our teachers live in group homes that have been built by our students and their parents. Everyone eats mostly what is grown right there in the village.
  4. An Average Day: The school day runs from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm. Afternoons and weekends give missionaries opportunities to prepare and eat meals with their fellow teachers, play soccer or volleyball, attend church with their students, and visit students in their homes and meet their families.

Important Things to Know

  1. The Cost to Serve: The cost to serve with us is very minimal.  $250/month is more than enough because it does not cost much to live in a village.  Nonetheless we very much encourage everyone to raise support from their friends, family and churches rather than simply covering the costs themselves. Organizing people to support you gives you the chance to involve them in the ministry you’ll be doing.
  2. Typical Time Commitment: Missionaries typically serve for a semester or for a year, but we encourage those still enrolled in college to come volunteer for a summer.  The key is to spend enough time to build quality relationships with the people you’ve come to serve.
