Mtinyaki Secondary School is located in an area of the country that has a very high HIV infection rate and correspondingly a disproportionate number of orphans. More than half of all students who complete the 7th grade in primary schools in villages around Mtinyaki are orphans, and at our school currently 42% of all of our students are orphans. While this creates, of course, many challenges, we are committed to ensuring that no children are ever turned away from studying – whether their parents are simply too poor, and certainly not if their parents are already dead and cannot help them. The Apostle James tells us that the religion which pleases God is the one that takes care of the widows and the orphans, and therefore we actively seek out those young people who might not believe that they are welcome because they lack someone to pay their school fees.

The building program at this school is headed up by one of the graduates from the first school that VST started. The four villages which have been working together to build the school were able to complete all of the necessary buildings in time so that we could get Mtinyaki registered and accredited in 2012 and this year our first class of graduating students will take the national examinations at this school.
