Malindindo Secondary School

Only 24 km and three villages separate Malindindo Secondary School (located in the village of Malindindo) and Lukima Secondary School (located in the village of Maguu). It wasn’t long after we opened Lukima that it became clear that one school was simply not going to be enough to meet the needs of all of the villages in this remote, but highly populated, area south of the town of Mbinga. Four villages partnered together to build Malindindo high in the mountains from which, on a clear day, you can see across Lake Nyasa all the way to the neighboring country of Malawi.

We currently have more than 200 students enrolled at Malindindo and the school will produce its first graduates next year. These students have worked together on a water project that provides water for the school, for the houses of their teachers, as well as for them on a regular basis so that they can make more bricks to build more classrooms at their school.

A former student of Steve and Susan’s, who attend Makuzani Secondary School with Godfrey, Emmanueli and Janerose, is currently serving as the Headmaster of this school. He recently graduated from Dodoma University and has come to join the team. He is not only providing leadership for Malindindo but is working closely with the leaders of Village Schools Tanzania to prepare for the opening of VST’s leadership college which it is hoped will open in September 2014.
