Longa Secondary School
Four villages are partnering together to build Longa Secondary School in the village of Longa in the district of Mbinga in the southern region of Ruvuma. A former student of ours has worked together with the people of those villages to build six classrooms, a science laboratory building, two teacher houses and an administration building containing offices, a library and an assembly hall.
Longa already has over 300 students. They worked together to complete a particularly unique water project that draws water from an underground spring 2 km away and pipes it to the school and to the teacher houses. This year students hope to install a generator and do the wiring so that there will be electricity in the evenings for them and for their teachers. They are also working together making bricks and hauling foundation stones in order to build an additional six classrooms so that their little brothers and sisters will be able to also study. We are hoping to enroll as many as 200 more students in September.
