Katunda Secondary School
Katunda Secondary School is one of the many new schools in the Rukwa region of Tanzania that was started as a result of the initiative one man took to go around to communities across Rukwa holding town meetings. Anyisile did this for three years and helped to start 8 secondary schools in the Rukwa region. In July 2011 he moved more than 500 km to the east to the Morogoro region to begin building Taita Secondary School in the village of Taweta with the goal of launching a similar movement among people in villages in that part of the country.
Katunda Secondary School, located in the village of Kambo, is the result of the efforts of people from 9 villages. Together they have built 6 classrooms, a science laboratory building and a multi-purpose building with offices, a school library and an assembly hall. Nearly 200 students are currently enrolled. They received their first missionary teacher in 2010 and they should take the national exams for the first time this year if we succeed in getting the school registered and accredited in time.
Our new Headmaster at this school is a recent college graduate who learned of the work that VST is doing from his father who works for a timber company in the region of Iringa and was instrumental in convincing the company to offer to VST their bulldozer so that we could significantly speed up the building of the campus for our leadership college.
